CASE STUDY ON SUPPLY OF DEFECTIVE TANKS - Rostfrei Steels Private Limited
Introduction
Rostfrei steels Pvt Ltd - GLS/GFS Tanks| Our corporate, R. Jay group of companies being
a leading civil and engineering enterprise of India involved in the construction of
buildings, roads, highways, irrigation canals as well as in water waste
treatment and recycling is often in need of large industrial water storage
tanks. It ordered 50 GLS & Silo tanks sized 1350-2000l from Rostfrei steels Pvt. Ltd. and were completely dissatisfied with not only the products received
but also after-sales services.
Issues and Findings
The issues in the GLS/SILO tanks
as well as in the whole delivery process were manifold. Despite the order was
due for delivery in 15 days, GLS/GFS/SILO Tanks took a whole month after the order was
placed showcasing their lack of commitment and non-professional attitude. Not
only that, at the time of delivery very casual and unsafe approach was followed
in erecting the tanks at the site. Once the order was received, the tanks seemed
to be made up of poor quality. When the matter was further probed into, it was
found that the stainless steel used in the manufacturing of tanks was below the
standard quality. Because of such adverse quality used, many tanks started showing
edge discoloration defects within a few days of delivery. Rusting of nuts and
bolts has also already begun. In addition to that, about 5 GLS/GFS/SILO tanks are leaking
from multiple places and there is a faulty piping system and overfill problems in
more than 15 tanks. While the GLS tanks claim to be committed towards
productivity, quality and safety in all their endeavors, they fail to keep
their words. Despite the numerous emails written and endless phone calls made
to their client grievance cell, not a single response received from their side.
Impacts on projects of R. Jay group of companies
Because of the late
delivery, the new highway project got delayed for about 20 days. When finally,
the tanks were delivered, the project was further hindered because of the
numerous defects in the storage tanks and the cost of their repair is also increasing
day by day. Not only that, tons of water got wasted because of piping failures
and overfills, further soaring the costs.
Recommendations
Since the grievance the cell of the GLS/GFS Tanks is not reachable, it is now advised to directly
contact the administrative head of the organization. If the satisfactory revert
is still not received, then the R. Jay group of companies is left with no other
option but to plea in the consumers' court as not only its investment in tanks
but also the goodwill is at stake.
